Creating destinations for people to eat, drink, and socialize within the public realm is key to growing Charlotte’s ‘cafe culture’ and ensuring an active urban fabric. Streateries (outdoor dining areas served by nearby eateries) are a valuable placemaking tool, working to support this goal of vibrancy.
Five local design teams have designed and constructed uniquely themed streateries within the parking lane along Tryon Street. These reclaimed spaces now serve as temporary outdoor areas for people to eat, drink, rest, socialize – live the sidewalk café lifestyle.
