Lavagem!

The Lavagem Celebration shares, teaches, documents and archives Brazilian Indigenous (Caboclos) and Black arts culture with Charlotte communities, while cultivating a space for fellowship with dance and music workshops, cultural performances, a lavagem procession, and panel discussions. Each day offers a distinct schedule of activities. All events are free, but registration is required for classes. All ages welcome! No dance training required.

6:00 p.m. Welcome and Historical Reverence

6:15 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The Spirit of the Drum: African Brazilian drumming class with Jose Ricardo & Bira Monteiro

7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Dança Afro workshop with Nildinha Fonseca. This workshop introduces the diverse dances that come from the African nations of West and Central Africa as they reemerged in Brazil
