Andrea Downs

Andrea Downs is a visual artist, community arts organizer, and educator who was based in Charlotte, North Carolina for 12 years and recently moved to Baltimore, Maryland in June of 2021. Through her work, Andrea strives to foster collaboration and connection by opening invitations to link diverse communities in dialogue through visual art. At the center of her work is the value of relationships, connectivity, identity, and open engagement to build stronger communities. In tribute to many of the hundreds of women who continue to connect through her ongoing visual storytelling movement, Airing Out the "Dirty" Laundry, whose stories were celebrated in the Mint Museum Uptown in Charlotte in 2020; Andrea painted and printed Balsa Butterflies to honor and appreciate the personal connections that have sustained her amidst the tumult of the last four years.
